Best Western Gaylord

The room was much larger than I expected, with furniture in good shape and a spotless bathroom. The lobby smelled nice and the hallways were clean, and the rate was very good. There are also plenty of good food options nearby, which is convenient.

We had no complaints about the clean, bug-free room, and housekeeping did a great job. The bed setup was handy too, with a sink outside the bathroom for when one of us needed to wash up while the other was busy in there. Breakfast was kind of awesome, with eggs that changed each day, meat like sausage or bacon, waffles, coffee, and the usual other breakfast foods. The pool's huge hot tub was clean enough for us. This was a perfect base for our weekend at Boyne Mountain, about a 30-minute drive away, and the drive was easy even in blowing snow.

My wife and daughter had to drive back downstate at 1:00 in the morning after the front desk lady was rude and disrespectful and called the cops on me. I paid $1,200 for them to stay 12 days up north. After they checked in, went shopping, and had dinner, my daughter found a big puddle of blood on the floor by the toilet. My wife took pictures. I asked the desk to send someone to clean it, but they said management was in, and when I asked to move rooms, the woman said she was alone and couldn't move us. My 11-year-old daughter was throwing up at the sight of the blood. I said I'd write a review, and then the woman called the police and made me leave at 1:00 in the morning. They tried to deny my refund, though someone at booking.com helped resolve some of the money issue. I shouldn't have had to pay anything for such a disgusting room. The hot tub wasn't working properly and looked nasty, and the heat barely worked in the room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, whatever their budget.

Check-in was great, and the desk clerk was awesome. One room had no heat at first, but the clerk came up and got it working. Then the power went out because power lines were falling and catching fire, which wasn't the hotel's fault. We asked for extra blankets and got them while waiting for electricity to return around 1:30am. In the morning there was no hot water for a shower. I mentioned it at checkout and was told it should be working now, but I was leaving without having showered. They didn't offer any kind of discount for all the trouble.
