Downtown Motel

The furnishings inside may seem dated to some, but the room was warm, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was hot after a cold day outside watching a local racing event. My son and I were happy with our weekend here. It’s an old classic motel that’s been updated over the years, was very clean, and the exterior was well kept. The staff were friendly and helpful.

At least the staff were friendly. The office smelled strongly of curry powder, and there wasn’t even a chair in our room. The mattress felt like plywood covered with cardboard. The toilet barely flushed, and the bathroom ceiling tiles were slimy.

The man who checked me in was polite, which is the only good thing I can say. The place looked incredibly outdated, starting with check-in, and the room was the filthiest dump I’ve stayed in. It smelled like body odor mixed with an old ashtray, so I ate supper in my dirty work truck instead. During the hour or so I was there, people kept yelling and screaming along the walkway. I honestly thought I might have to dodge bullets before the night was over. I don’t know how a place in this condition stays in business.

Nothing fancy, but it was economical, had good heat, and I could park close to my room.
