Hampton Inn Gaylord

Two nights felt like great value. The room was clean, staff helpful, parking easy, and breakfast was a nice surprise. I’d suggest warming the pool up a little more during winter.

After driving for two days, we just wanted to sleep. We paid $475 for one Friday night in Gaylord, Michigan, and expected much better. A Homewood suite in Ontario the night before cost $230 and was miles better. The shower caulk was moldy, the carpet was nasty, and the rooms were dated. Someone reviewing this place as “fairly new” must be over 80 years old. I’m not taking pictures, the room looks just like the one pictured in reviews below. I haven’t seen any staff during four trips in and out of the front doors while carrying bags and going to the store, so I can’t comment on them. But the dirty rooms, wrinkled beds, and garbage not taken out that people mention in other reviews were all true of our room, and then some. Edit: Taking off another star for sheets that hadn’t been washed and smelled like bodily fluids. This is beyond okay. Edit again: We got up for breakfast and found a bottle of toilet cleaner and a wet rag next to the waffles and condiments. Nice, I guess someone might be cleaning toilets here.

We checked in on 12/27/2025, and within an hour spotted an insect on the bed. We caught it in a plastic bag, confirmed it was a bed bug, showed it to staff, and promptly demanded a refund. BED BUGS CONFIRMED AT THIS LOCATION. I’ve stayed with Hampton Inn for 30 years and have always been pleased with the accommodations, but this location looks old and in need of renovation. I wouldn’t recommend staying here under any circumstances. There are better, newer, cleaner options nearby.

The location was great, but I can only give this two stars. I’ve been a silver member for a few years. Room 313 looked clean at first, and the sheets seemed clean when I turned down the bed after a long drive. There was a musty smell, so I checked the air filter and found it dirty and really in need of cleaning. The window was very dirty, and the bathroom wasn’t horrible, though the sink barely drained after I brushed my teeth. When I left and came back, I found a door that was unlocked and wouldn’t lock. The front desk said it never locks and didn’t seem concerned. I’m in law enforcement, and guest safety and security should matter most. If it’s always left unlocked, that’s bad for guests. I won’t stay there again.
