Fairfield Inn & Suites By Marriott Austin Georgetown

The free breakfast buffet had lots of choices and was well done. Our room was quiet and relaxing, and the shower didn’t splash water all over the bathroom, which I don’t think I’ve seen before at a hotel. We booked at the last minute, just an hour before arriving, and the staff were courteous and friendly. Marriott wins again!

His company prepaid for the room, but my husband was still asked to put his card on file, presumably for incidentals. His boss called and moved it to her business card, yet they still took $150 from his account. The money was back two days later, which was great, but today they charged another $150. What is that for? He was checked in for maybe 12 hours total, and spent several of those out exploring town. It’s really disheartening, especially since his company uses this hotel regularly.

We got the quiet stay we wanted just outside Austin and away from SXSW, while still being close to the highway. Our room was nicely appointed and maintained, and the place was super quiet, so we got the rest we needed. We even overslept breakfast. The San Gabriel was right behind the hotel, with a nice trail area beside it, a pleasant surprise. Too bad we didn’t have more time. The construction nearby made getting around a bit difficult, but that’s temporary. Night staff were kind, helpful, and efficient, and put us on the top floor so we wouldn’t hear other guests. The common areas had a strong scent that reminded me of shopping at HOllister. It was pleasant, but could bother someone with allergies or asthma. When we first entered the room, there was a mildew smell. I nearly called to ask for another room, but we adjusted quickly. We couldn’t tell whether it came from a vent or the bathroom, and saw no sign of a source.

I’ve walked in during the afternoon on two different days, and after 3 there’s always a permanent “helping another guest” sign up, even though that seems highly unlikely. Most places know to keep employees available around check-in time. Here, customers end up waiting for staff.
