At least the WiFi worked well. The tile floor was damp, none of the drains had plugs or covers, and the toilet handle had broken off. It looked like decades of problems had been covered over with paint, carpet, and tile. I haven’t stayed somewhere in a long time that made me want to leave straight away.

The room was clean on the surface, but it felt very dingy, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The kitchen table looked so wobbly that we were afraid to put anything on it. There was no baseboard below the kitchen cabinets, and the room’s baseboards were scuffed and filthy. The carpet was stained, the blackout curtain had holes, plaster was peeling above the windows, and bathroom tiles were cracked.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable, but everything in the hotel seemed old and poorly kept, as if it might have been nice 20-plus years ago. The location itself is pleasant, with a few nearby restaurants, but it’s not actually in Memphis and takes about a 30-minute drive to get there. At check-in, they charged us for the room again even though we’d prepaid. When I brought it up the next morning, the woman apologized and refunded the charge.

The staff were friendly, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. The property feels worn out, though. The carpet was threadbare in places, the toilet and tub drained slowly, and the third floor hallway was as cold as the 35 degree temperature outside. Some maintenance is due. I also wish Sunday breakfast had started at 6am instead of 7am, since waiting meant we got a later start on our drive from CST to EST.
