Such a good location, and the rooms felt cozy without being cramped. The beds were super comfortable, and we loved our stay at this Hilton property. We'll definitely come back. The only things I'd suggest are a more thorough cleaning of the side entrances to each building and the elevators. The Monroe building elevator door is also really slow, lol. Thanks!
The room was basic, like an average Hampton Inn on a larger scale, and the building wasn't anything special. Our room's bathroom light switch was stuck on, though the heat was wonderfully quiet. I've stayed in plenty of motels in winter, so I appreciated that. Getting checked in was pleasant. The gentleman was nice, informative, and gave more details than most front desk staff. I wish they routinely mentioned checkout time, since nobody seems to anymore. We didn't eat at the property. We drove to a small plaza about a mile away and had the worst hibachi, at a fast food place. Now I know better than to get fast food hibachi again, lol. That's not the hotel's fault, and there are plenty of dining options nearby. Breakfast isn't included, but you can get it for a fee. The location was convenient for travelers, near 95 with an easy drive off and back onto the exit. I barely heard the highway from the room, just a little during morning rush hour. The grounds initially looked lovely, though the signs could be clearer. We weren't sure where to check in: there was a large red check-in sign, but we couldn't see the hotel name, and we missed the check-in parking spots on our first pass. We had driven a long way, so that may have been on us, but the directions could still be clearer. If steps are difficult for you, park to the side because there are several on the way to the Grand entrance. After checking in, we found we were staying in another building, so we had to get back in the car and drive around behind the neighboring building.
We had a lovely dinner and breakfast, and our stay was perfect. The last time we were here was 20 years ago, and we still love the place and its setting. The staff were outstanding, especially considering they'd been there for several days through an ice storm, unable to get home and likely unable to get back if they did.
The grounds were beautiful and the room was very clean. Check-in was easy, and it was a good stop overall. The only problem was that most of the outlets in the room didn't work. We had a lot of electronics to charge and could find only one working plug.
The safety issue made this stay especially bad. A cover came off an electrical panel and nearly hit my toddler, only stopping because of the narrow hallway. It was barely held on with a flimsy hook and could come loose with a small movement. We reported it and were moved to a smaller room, with no compensation. The bathroom sink there was completely clogged and held water for over 10 minutes. I booked Virginia Crossings Hotel hoping for a nice stay outside Richmond. The location was as expected, though there weren't convenient places nearby. The decor and carpets felt old, like the hotel had once been a prime wedding venue and never moved on. This was the first time I'd left a negative review after a stay, and I won't return.
