Higgins Hotel

The young woman at the front desk was kind and understanding, but the room was another story. As soon as I opened the door, the smell nearly made me throw up. The building is very old, and there was a strong mold odor along with what I thought might be animal urine. I left right away and canceled my stay.

This place is wonderfully unusual, with its century-old woodwork and cast-iron radiators. The towels were nicer than any I've used, even at five-star hotels in Chicago, and the beds are new and very comfortable. It's definitely an old building, though it has electricity, thankfully, and the appeal comes down to appreciating something unique. In a small-town place like this, I found the management and staff friendly and sincerely caring. Wonderful.

We found the beds comfortable and the rooms clean, spacious, and well equipped. It's a lovely family-owned hotel that worked perfectly for my family. The restaurant is so good.

The restaurant is a real highlight for me. The meats are high quality, and the sauces and salsas they make are special and distinctive. The food is tasty and authentic, with flavors you don't find just anywhere. I've stayed twice in the past six months, and both visits were great. The owners and staff are warm, genuine, and caring, and the rooms have lots of space and comfortable beds. I also enjoyed learning about the hotel's rich history. I highly recommend it and can't wait to come back.
