Hanging Lake Inn

The bed was comfortable, and highway noise was mostly quiet, though the occasional truck, train, or motorcycle could wake you. The room felt sterile and not cozy at all. There was no closet for jackets or hooks for towels, and it was freezing when I walked in. The old wall heater was loud. No amenities. It’ll do if you just need somewhere to sleep, can sleep through anything, and there are no other vacancies. A lesson learned.

I like smaller motels, and having a street-level room with nobody above me was a real plus. The hotel was just minutes off the freeway, but not right in that first block by the exit where most hotels are. The freeway was very close, though with the AC running I couldn’t hear traffic. I was there for a quick night, arriving at 10:30 pm and leaving at 6:30 am, so I didn’t interact with staff. The room had hardwood floors, was clean, and the bed was very comfortable.

I love mom & pop motels, and this place was immaculate. Sitting in the chairs out front had a nice porch feel, with a view of the mountain. I only met the male owner, but he was fantastic and made me feel like his top priority for our whole two-day stay.

The mattress itself was comfortable, but the sheets didn’t fit well and kept popping off during the night. I stayed in an older room with carpet, and I wouldn’t walk around barefoot on it. I’d also suggest keeping real coffee, mugs, and glasses out of the room and using paper ones. The lamps and bathroom ceiling need cleaning, and mildew seems to be starting. Both bathroom lights were full of insects, or at least I hope they were insects. Apart from those issues, the experience was great.
