Hampton Inn by Hilton West Wichita Goddard

The room looked great when we arrived, and getting the early check-in notice at noon was a nice surprise. The price seemed fair too. Later, after a long, cold day at the ball field, I found there was no shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. The woman downstairs apologized and said they were out of body wash, then brought shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap about 20 minutes later. She was very kind, and that part was no big deal. The bigger problems came overnight and the next morning. The parking lot light poured into the room, and the powered blinds didn’t work. Then the toilet paper ran out, and staff told me they had none available. They offered no suggestion, so I found a public restroom in the hotel and made a roll myself for my kid to use in our room. Breakfast was also a mess. Several ball teams were staying there, and there was no food while people waited, even though this hotel has a water park and ten ball fields next door, so busy mornings shouldn’t be a surprise. If amenities people have paid for won’t be available, the hotel should say so honestly. I didn’t get my money’s worth. I can’t speak for the other guests, but some seemed to have much worse problems than we did. Hampton, do better.

Katelyn at the front desk was so cheerful and kind, and gave me the best customer service. It’s hard to find people that nice at a front desk. I’ll definitely come back. If I were her boss, I’d give her a raise. She deserves it.

We went 0-6 at the robotics competition, so that part wasn’t good, but the hotel was the highlight of the trip for me and the five other people who came along. There’s a water park connected to it, plus a Genesis fitness center and an arcade, and breakfast was great. The roads getting in and out were confusing, though. Everything else made up for that, and I’d come back.

We had a really fun, affordable weekend without needing to leave the hotel. The front desk has a coupon for water park tickets if you ask, and Walmart is close by if you forgot something. There’s an arcade with claw machines and games, and breakfast ran from, I believe, 6 to 10. It had a good variety, including a make-your-own-waffle station. The staff were extremely nice, and our room was very clean with amazingly comfortable beds. The pool is huge and warm. We swam for a while before the connected water park opened at 4 pm the night we stayed. Its water was warm too, and once we were moving around and playing, nobody seemed cold. We packed life vests for peace of mind, though the kids would have been fine without them. Mom and dad had a good time on the big slides. There’s a bar at both the water park and hotel, and the water park’s swim-up bar looked great. We didn’t get to use the hot tub because we were busy watching the kids. It was a fun time for the whole family.
