Quality Inn & Suites Goodyear - Phoenix West

It feels easy to settle in here, and somehow leaving is harder than expected. The calm atmosphere makes the outside world fade away, while the warm greeting and focused menu feel just right. Nothing tries to grab your attention, but all the little details fit together so naturally that the place feels welcoming almost as soon as you arrive.

For getting around, this place is convenient. You can reach the freeway easily, Black Bear Diner is right out front, and Waffle House, IHOP, and plenty of shops are across the street or close by. The breakfast room is bigger and more comfortable than it used to be, though it can still feel cramped, and you can’t take food out of that area. One strange thing is that booking through the hotel website or as a Choice member costs more than booking through third-party sites. I’ve stayed here before and had a decent experience, but the price is the big issue this time. Once it’s over $100, it’s hard to justify for this location. The freeway noise is constant, with traffic, trucks, and people walking by. If you just need a basic place to sleep and don’t mind the noise, it may do. Don’t expect luxury or complimentary amenities, especially at this price. It doesn’t feel much like “Quality” for what they’re charging. The staff are a mixed bag, about 50/50. Some are friendly and helpful; others seem to be having a bad day. The rooms also show wear. Some light shades are torn or see-through, and things feel a little rough around the edges. The bathtubs feel like ones you’d find in a family home. They’re not luxurious, but not bad enough to put me off showering. It works if convenience and location are what you need, but at the current prices, I find it hard to say it’s worth it.

The people were pleasant as usual, and that means more to me than lobby fixtures or someone playing piano. I thanked the person who made my “free breakfast!” and we had a good laugh and a caring moment about gratitude. What’s that worth? The stay met expectations, nothing more or less. At Quality Inn, I trust I’ll get the basics I need after a long day of travel: a clean, comfortable bed. I often wonder what separates a $150/night room from one that costs $1,050.00 when 90% of the stay is that bed. Not much, to me. I don’t need another thousand dollars’ worth of lobby fixtures and 60' ceilings. Time for bed. Good night.

We arrived to a dirty room, with wet spots and hair on the bathroom floor and hair on the beds. The TV didn’t work, and the fridge and TV were held together with duct tape. When we showed the desk lady photos, she switched us to another room, but at first she looked at us as if we were making it up. The second room was still not clean enough, and we had to force the door open and shut. At 4:30 in the morning, construction sounds outside our door woke us up, and I still don’t know what was going on. A very disappointing stay.
