The Libby House is the historic bed and breakfast, while The Barn Hostel has been the historic AT thru-hiker side. It was sad to see it change hands after three generations of Libbys, but a young family has stepped up, and they also work for ATMC. She is class of 2012. With their AT connections and experience, I’m confident it’s in good hands. One other note: it’s not handicapped accessible.

For two nights on a hiking road trip, this little B&B was a great find. It was immaculate, well appointed, and the service was great, all for a very reasonable price. The continental breakfast was perfect. Staying there felt almost like visiting a turn-of-the-century museum. I highly recommend it if you’re in the area.

This was the worst place to stay in Gorham for me. You might pay $10-$15 more to share a hotel room, or try camping elsewhere in town. I don’t often post Google reviews, but I want to warn people about this nasty hiker hostel. They’re bad at keeping reservations and can cancel yours without notice, then blame you. The bathroom was dirty, shared by around 20 people, and apparently nobody cleaned it. They didn’t clean or change the sheets either, just sprayed Febreze after a hiker checked out. One of our friends picked up a supposedly clean towel that had vomit on it.

The room was clean, and the staff were super friendly. The price is affordable too. I highly recommend it to AT hikers.

The Barn, attached to the Libby House B&B, was a clean, orderly place for my hiking partner, my girlfriend, and me to stay during our hike. Paul is a fantastic guy, and you can tell he cares about his business and the hiking community. As long as he’s running the Barn, I think you’ll be in good hands. Thanks! -Fern and Gully
