Hunters Grille and Tap at The Grafton Inn

The room had mold all over the air conditioner, running down the wall and onto the carpet. It’s a bad choice if you have allergies, and I wouldn’t send family or friends here. There were no blackout curtains, so the bright streetlight came through the windows, and traffic was loud all night. We had to get the key from a lockbox, but our key was missing and there was no staff on site to tell us what to do. I felt there was no security, and worried someone could kick in the door without anyone hearing us call for help. When we called to complain, they didn’t answer, then ghosted us. Getting a refund was impossible. Worst place on earth if you like mold.

We were there for a wedding weekend and had breakfast, lunch, and dinner several times. The food was delicious at every meal, and the staff were amazing. Sara and Lisa especially looked after us with a smile, along with the welcoming hostess, lively bartender, and attentive wait staff. We enjoyed the unique dishes at both the Phelps Barn and the Tavern. The chefs and cooks deserve credit for the food, and for how quickly and well they served it. A great dining and hospitality experience in a charming setting. THANK-YOU!

We went to check in and couldn’t find a single person. After we’d searched the Inn, a text about check-in finally came hours later. The WiFi didn’t work, and both the Inn’s phone number and the posted manager’s number were out of service. There’s no desk, and the restaurant is shuttered and in shambles. The building feels unsafe, with fire extinguishers that haven’t been inspected in years and no lock on the door. I doubt it meets code. The reviews here praising the service, restaurant, or specific people are probably for the other Grafton Inn in Vermont. This Massachusetts one is all but abandoned.

For the holiday price, it was fine. The room was clean enough and had a mini fridge, with a thoughtful coffee station just outside. Still, I was surprised to find the bar being gutted and no staff in the building. It felt a little weird taking the key from a lockbox.
