Grand Forks Lodge and Suites

The second floor smelled awful, like curry mixed with a dirty diaper. The elevator floor had blood on it, and only half the hot tub worked. In our room, there were black hairs on the sheets, in the shower, and in the sink. The shower didn’t work, and the curtains were stained. The hot tub looked as though someone had painted it with a toilet brush. This place felt more like a shelter than a hotel. Don’t waste your money here.

I woke up and found I couldn’t shower because the shower didn’t work. That was the last straw. The toilet paper holder and curtains were broken, the TV was stuck on one channel, and there were long black hairs on the sheets. I’d been willing to overlook the TV, window, holder, and hair, but not being able to shower was too much. When I complained, the front desk woman said nothing could be done because I’d waited until morning to report it. Ridiculous. I was very disappointed and won’t return unless they reimburse me or offer a free stay. I wish I’d taken pictures and videos.

The rooms are spacious and as clean as you can expect in an older hotel. Renovation work was noisy, but the staff made it easier to put up with. They were lovely, attentive, professional, and informative.

The king room was roomy and the bed was comfortable, and the property could be nice. But it felt poorly managed, with cleaning that wasn’t up to par and management that seemed too cheap. There was a red stain on the white sheets, the tub drain backed up while I showered, and the bathroom fan looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The walls are thin enough that I could hear the person next door snoring, and the hallway smelled of curry. Both mornings, someone who may have been an employee or a guest walked the hall talking loudly on speakerphone in a foreign language. Breakfast was disappointing too: the area was filthy, the food was left out, and the continental options weren’t good. The front desk worker was slow to replace items, if she replaced them at all, and seemed more focused on her phone. It’s a shame, since the property itself is nice.
