The room was clean and cheap, but I wouldn't come back. When I arrived, I learned there was a $100 deposit that hadn't been mentioned when I booked online. Pay by card and they take it right away, but it can take 3-5 business days to come back. The desk clerk was so quiet I could barely hear him, gave little information, and didn't explain where the room was. I had to figure it out from a faded map on the wall. There wasn't enough parking, and my kids and I didn't feel safe in the back, so we parked up front. There were noisy guests outside and heavy footsteps overhead for hours after 10. The bathroom door didn't close fully, and the shower curtain had no liner, so water went all over the floor. The lobby carpet and furniture were stained. The king bed had just four small, hard pillows. You get what you pay for.

The room was clean enough, but the desk chair was coming apart and the bed felt like a rock. The shower handle for hot water was broken and difficult to adjust, and the temperature kept swinging from cold to scalding. There wasn't a bathroom fan. I often found the front desk empty and had to ring and wait. I suspect the host was playing video games in a back room. The location is awkward, far enough from things to be inconvenient but near enough to seem reasonable. There's poor housing in the area behind the hotel.

The morning manager I dealt with was understanding and friendly, and the other employees were excellent. I hope the staff who treat customers well are paid more, and that the rooms get funding to be cleaned up and fixed. The place has potential, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone passing through Grand Junction. My girlfriend and I drove seven hours for a wedding, and although the outside looked passable, our room was awful. The window had cracks and holes; the walls were stained and bumpy; the carpet had dark stains and sticky patches; and the mattress had hair and crumbs. We didn't see bed bugs, at least. A used piece of tissue had been left on the tub and went down the drain when we showered. We ended up buying sleeping bags and a blanket across town because the mattress was so gross. Two nights would have cost $315, so we canceled the second night and paid more for another hotel, which was worth it. At check-in, a long haired man at the desk demanded a $100 security deposit. I tried to make friendly small talk, but he rolled his eyes and seemed annoyed I was checking in. He was the rudest hotel employee I've dealt with and gave us terrible service. We also saw him treat other customers that way. He wasn't helpful about the refund. I'm still waiting for the second-night refund and deposit, though I trust they'll arrive because the morning manager was helpful. If the hotel renovated and restaffed, I'd consider it again in an emergency. I hope the rooms improve, but if you're in Grand Junction, avoid it, especially if that employee is working.

There were 15-20 residents gathered on the grass courtyard outside the rooms when we arrived, mostly smoking or walking dogs. Nobody was masked, so I stepped off the sidewalk to keep some distance while hauling our suitcases. The lawn had been mowed, though much of it was weeds and clover, and there were brown spots where poop had recently been picked up. At least I didn't see any uncollected poop, and bags were provided at a stand. We were uneasy about the lounge, which advertises good food and drinks, because of the clientele, so we stayed in our room to eat and drink until morning. The room smelled of disinfectant, so I assumed it was clean, but an ice spill showed the vinyl floor was quite dirty. The little fridge had an inch of ice in its tiny freezer compartment. The bright yellow American Standard Porcelain bathroom fixtures stood out, and the toilet used at least four gallons per flush yet barely flushed. On the good side, the king bed was comfortable, the sheets were nice, and there were enough pillows. The room was a comfortable size, not crowded, and had a table and two chairs, compact fridge, microwave, TV, and working bedside lamps, just as advertised. The woman at check-in was polite and helpful enough. It's a worn-out, dated hotel.

My room was clean enough, though it could have been better. The rest of the stay was a mess. The reservations person was aggressive and rude, didn’t apply my military discount, and charged me too much. At the desk, staff seemed unsure what they were doing while a long line built up. They also required a $100 security deposit and said it could take up to three days to come back, so I had to pay the room charge plus that deposit. When I asked for my money back, they said they couldn’t refund me right away because I’d booked by phone. Terrible service.
