Cobblestone Cove

We visited Cobblestone Cove 3 back in 2016. Grand Marais is a small town with good food and little shops, and there are plenty of scenic places nearby, north of Duluth. The villa sits on the northern shore of Lake Superior and makes for a cozy vacation. Fall is a great time to visit.

Inside the master bedroom, it's easy to see everything at night if the blinds are left open. The bigger problem for me, though, was the heat. My fiancée and I arrived at Unit #6 in early August '23 to find it 86° inside. There were wall-mounted units, one on each floor, but after half an hour trying them and looking up manuals online, we called maintenance. They said the AC units were deliberately disabled and pointed us to box fans in the bedroom closets, adding that AC wasn't listed as an amenity. I can't sleep when I'm hot, and my fiancée gets sinus problems if a fan blows directly on her. I woke up drenched in sweat several times. The marina and Lake Superior views were awesome, most local attractions and shops were a short walk away, the shower pressure was heavenly, and the kitchen was fully stocked with plates, utensils, pots and pans, a full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The stay was amazing in those ways, but comfort indoors is my Achilles heel. Given how uncomfortable it was trying to sleep in a warm room and what it cost, I don't recommend Cobblestone and wouldn't return while the AC is disabled.

My family and I stayed in condo 2 and loved this beautiful spot on Lake Superior. There was great food close to the villas, and Lutsen's skiing and snowboarding are only 20 minutes away. We'll definitely be back.

The location, views, water pressure, and cleanliness were the reasons I gave it three stars. We stayed in Villa #6 during the first week of August and liked almost everything else about the condo, but being unable to control the room temperature was very disappointing for the price. It was about 86° inside when we arrived. We couldn't get the AC on, and maintenance told us it was disabled because it wasn't included in the villa description. They said fans were available and to contact them with any other concerns. We were sure we could hear the neighbors' AC running. The first two nights were miserable. Even with three fans plus the ceiling fan, we were sweating, uncomfortable, unable to sleep, and felt sick and nauseous. We couldn't sleep in the other parts of the villa because guests were using those rooms. The weather finally cooled near the end of our stay, but then the master bedroom fireplace wouldn't ignite. We left before our stay was over.
