Spark By Hilton Grand Prairie

We paid around $100 a night, and the stay felt disappointing for that price. There wasn’t enough parking by the building, so we ended up in a gravel lot off to the side. The lot and parts of the hotel smelled strongly of marijuana. The beds were comfortable, but the room had some problems. There were no washcloths when we arrived, the shower looked like it was being held together with caulk, and hot water took about five minutes. On our second day, we asked for fresh towels and were told none were available. The walls were thin, and there weren’t enough outlets near the bed to charge things easily. We also had a frustrating check-in. Hilton’s app let us pick a room and gave us a digital key, but we still had to go to the desk and didn’t get the room we’d selected. There was also a $40 refundable hold for possible damage. The digital check-in felt mostly pointless after that. Breakfast came with the room, but it was just bagels and cereal. There wasn’t any hot food unless you bought it separately, which was disappointing for a Hilton property. The beds made the stay manageable, but the parking, upkeep, breakfast, and app experience need work, so it’s hard to recommend.

Ms. Janice was wonderful, very kind and helpful throughout my stay. The rooms were really clean, and breakfast in the morning was just what I needed to start the day. I’d recommend staying here. Five stars!

I’d stayed at the Spark in Destin, FL before and had an excellent experience, so I chose this one for my work trip to DFW. The gentleman at the desk that night was kind, apologetic, and accommodating. This isn’t about him. After a five hour drive, we found that our bed had only a comforter and top sheet, with no fitted sheet. My wife asked the front desk for one and made the bed herself. They offered to move us, so she started carrying our luggage over. The other room was very dirty, with a detached shower faucet, a pubic hair on the soap dish, and a roach on the wall. Soon after, my wife developed an itchy rash that spread up her arm, chest, and neck. We think it was from the linens. It only went away after a long hot shower at another hotel and two doses of Benadryl. We checked out and booked somewhere else. That room was in much better shape, and it was another Hilton property. We still haven’t received a refund from this Spark hotel, HILTON HOTELS, or HOTELS.COM, and no one has contacted us about what happened. Maybe this review will get their attention. They offered me 5000 Hilton Honors points for the inconvenience, but still haven’t refunded the stay. That’s about $25, compared with the $100 we paid Spark and the $170 we paid to stay at the Embassy suites. We tried to be fair by using the same company. My mistake. Keep the 5000 points. I just want the $100 back for the room we didn’t stay in. That seems more than fair, and I’m not asking for anything else.

The price was decent, and the front desk service was great, especially for a Hilton Honors member. The bed was good, though there wasn’t a desk chair, just some kind of ottoman to sit on. The bathroom setup was cute, but there was duct tape on the shower head and the tub felt a bit small. Breakfast was free but a letdown, with muffins, bagels, and cereal. You could apparently buy breakfast sandwiches. Google found the hotel, though it seemed tricky to spot, tucked behind an IHOP.
