The only thing I disliked was the odd painting on the wall. It looks like a big abstract image of someone’s backside, which I found unappealing. I’d rather see city photos that might give me ideas for places to visit. Aside from that, this was the best value I found, even compared with other three-star hotels. I’ve stayed at more than ten places on this trip, and this was the only one I booked twice. It’s much better than the other Staybridge in the same city, which is older, less clean, and somehow costs more. This one had been open for under a year when I stayed. It’s near the airport, though some hotels closer to it may attract more travelers. At the same price, I’d choose this one. The brand used to offer simple free dinners Monday through Thursday when I stayed at a different Staybridge before COVID. Now the free dinner is Monday through Wednesday, with all-you-can-eat salad, macaroni one night, garlic bread another, and similar food. This hotel is still a better deal than another local hotel that offers dinner but charges at least $20 more per night. Laundry is free, including both the washers and dryers, which I haven’t found at other hotel brands. Coffee is refreshed every four hours. The pool was clean and not heavily chlorinated. On my first stay, breakfast had fresh strawberries; on the second, grapes mixed with cantaloupe. Other hotels don’t serve fresh fruit at breakfast. The 50-inch TV has Samsung TV Plus, lots of channels, YouTube, Netflix, and more. Some hotels no longer have even one fully working computer for guests, and some don’t use Windows. This one has a fully functional Windows computer, which I was glad to use for updating my old TomTom GPS.

We were staying here because we needed to, not for business or vacation, but the service was A++++±. Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping was kind and accommodating, and I couldn’t have asked for more. The hotel is beautiful and relaxing, with everything close at hand. There’s a three-night social dining option for guests to gather and grab a quick bite, plus a nice breakfast with something for everyone, a fitness room, and a pool for a quick swim. It really has a lot to offer. I’d recommend it for either a short getaway or an extended stay. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in, and well worth a visit.

The pool could’ve been a little warmer, but we still swam and had fun. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and new, and the whole team was professional and kind, from the man at the front desk and the young woman making breakfast to housekeeping and the woman at checkout. They even left a lovely birthday treat for us.

The location is excellent, across from Peppinos and right near the movies. Coffee, froyo, subs, and a Family Fare are all close enough to walk to, depending on the weather. The rooms had lots of thoughtful details and a kitchenette we loved. I especially appreciated the full-size Dove soaps instead of the usual little single-use plastic bottles that get thrown away. It felt like a small touch of luxury. Everything was clean, and the staff were bright and kind, even while working Christmas Eve. A wonderful stay in Kentwood, and a good choice if you’re visiting Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Caledonia, or Byron Center.

The hotel made sure I could have a peaceful staycation by asking whether I was with the large hockey group staying there. I wasn’t, so they put me on a separate floor. My room had everything you’d expect in a small apartment, including a comfortable bed with soft or firm pillows to choose from and a full-size fridge. There’s a grocery store, movie theater, and several restaurants within walking distance. I had a wonderful stay and will recommend this location.
