A small, quaint place with a nice complimentary breakfast and fresh popcorn available all day. The hotel was very clean, and the front desk staff welcomed us warmly when we arrived.

We had a good time playing Phase 10 in the lobby with our group. It’s a nice place to stay, four miles from the settlement, and we always enjoy the free popcorn and breakfast. The only snag was that the early daily cleaning interrupted our attempt to sleep in.

The bug issue is why I’m rating the stay this way. There was a smashed bug on the wall that hadn’t been cleaned because staff didn’t see it, and I forgot to mention it. The next morning, while exercising on a towel on the floor, I thought I saw another bug dart under the bed. I couldn’t find it to confirm, but I don’t think I imagined it. We were on the third floor, in an end room near the road into the facility, and I was glad we stayed only one night. Hopefully they’ll spray. Also, when we returned after hours, the doors were locked and we had to use our keys, even though someone was right at the desk. The desk person acted as if we should have known and wasn’t very friendly. Check-in, check-out, and breakfast service were otherwise good. My husband liked breakfast, though there wasn’t much for someone trying to eat better.

I felt bad for the friends I brought along, since I’d told them this place had never been like this before. My husband and I have stayed here every year for our anniversary, including our honeymoon, and the experiences used to be great. This time, the front desk staff were rude from check-in through checkout. Across three employees, there were no smiles or welcome, no eye contact, and plenty of snippiness. They acted like we were bothering them. Having managed a hotel restaurant before, I think that first contact should be friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, this trip wasn’t.
