Days Inn by Wyndham Grayson

We pulled in late on the way home and found the place super clean. Kathy Kynn at the front desk made sure there was something safe for our baby to eat, and the staff was there all night. We’ll definitely stay here again.

The hotel and staff were great, but I had a serious problem the next morning. At 7 AM, a work truck was left idling outside my room while its driver went in to eat breakfast. The exhaust came into my room for at least 30 minutes. I have COPD, use an inhaler, and was struggling to breathe, so I had to go sit in the lobby. I’d heard the truck and understood the driver was warming it up in the cold. I waited for him to leave, then called the front desk. The woman said she knew who it was and would ask him to move it under the awning. After breakfast, he got things from his room, sat in the truck another 10 to 15 minutes, and never moved it. The staff are great, but guests shouldn’t be allowed to back into parking spaces where exhaust blows into rooms.

This was my second stay, and both times they put our three rooms together without me having to ask. I called the day before this visit to request at least one room on the first floor, and they managed to put all three there. The rate may be a little higher than nearby places, but the rooms are neat, clean, and appear newly renovated. The bed was really comfortable, and the refrigerator was actually cold enough to refreeze my partly thawed freezer packs overnight in its little top drawer. There’s a microwave too, though I didn’t need it. The staff are friendly and accommodating. My son was looking for the muffins he’d had on our last visit, and a staff member went to the fridge and brought him two chocolate ones. They were large, moist, and delicious.

I usually wipe down hotel rooms when I check in with Windex and Bounty paper towels. Here I didn’t touch a thing. Everything was so clean, including the tile, floors, and carpet. I’d heard the place was renovated three years ago and didn’t believe it at first because everything looked brand new. I used to stay across the street at the Econo Lodge, but it’s gone downhill. I found this Days Inn by mistake, and now it’s saved in my navigation for whenever I’m trucking through this part of Kentucky. The staff deserve credit for keeping it this clean years after the renovation. The outside and parking lot could use some attention, but don’t let that put you off. It’s a diamond in the rough.
