Best Western Green Valley Inn

The bathroom shower was the only part I liked. The front desk girl and cleaning staff were friendly, but everything else made the stay frustrating. The walls were so thin we heard everything from the next room. There was dust everywhere, paint on the bed skirts, a thermostat that wouldn't work, and a hot tub with broken bubbles. The coffee was terrible, too. There was also a lot of construction, with a huge dumpster outside our window. My mother-in-law paid $200 for one night through the Best Western site, and the explanation was "unexpected expenses." It was nonrefundable. We stayed an extra night in Green Valley and asked to book another night. We were quoted a price and charged, then told it was the wrong price and charged again, with an extra $20 fee. They said we got a good deal. These rooms are way overpriced for what you get. If you're reading this, call the hotel directly instead of booking through a third-party site. Phhhhht...

The included breakfast was great as usual, and the 19th Hole Restaurant still serves good food with generous wine pours. We’ve been staying here for over 20 years. The rooms have been painted, and the new showers and mattresses are lovely, but most of the furniture and curtains still look like they’re from 20 years ago. They say the rooms have been renovated. In our room, the fridge wasn't working four days after we stayed there and came back, and the bathroom warming light was out too.

I got a good night's sleep in a clean room with a comfortable bed, and the staff were all friendly and professional. The rug was spotted, though, and the work setup had several problems. I needed solid internet in the conference room for a one-hour Zoom meeting. The WiFi froze three or four times, first on my new PC laptop and then on my iPhone, so I eventually had to switch off my video. In my room, the desk chair couldn't be raised because its gas canister had stopped working. It sat too low, and the upholstery was worn with peeling finish. The iron's dial wouldn't adjust, and the ironing board had loose fabric and wrinkled padding that couldn't be tightened. The staff replaced the iron promptly.

The attached restaurant has great staff, and the free breakfast offers a nice selection. There are also several other restaurants within walking distance in the same large parking lot and complex. Mario McGee's is one of our favorites. The location works well for a short drive to Tubac, Madera Canyon, and other places to explore. Staff here are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are being remodeled, and the new colors look great even though we weren't in an updated room. Our preferred location should be finished by the time we return. It'll be five stars for us once all the rooms are updated.
