At check-in, the front desk woman added a $100 security deposit on top of the regular room charges and said it would be refunded after checkout. We took good care of the room and left early, but it’s been three weeks and the money still hasn’t come back.

I found a cheap rate for a handicapped room on an app I use, and was honestly surprised by how good the service was. My room was spacious enough for me, my partner, and our things, and I felt comfortable there. The main annoyance was finding four or five ants after putting my stuff down. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it was unpleasant to feel like something was crawling on your leg after putting on shorts. My partner also noticed that the heater was loud enough to wake her when it switched on. I’d still give the place another try, but might book a different room, maybe one that doesn’t see as many people.

While passing through Greensboro, I stayed at the Doubletree. The room was clean and great, and the staff were extremely friendly and helped me find food nearby. The only drawback for me was that the bed felt a little too hard. Otherwise, it was a great place to stay.

The road noise was the main downside. I’d suggest asking for an odd-numbered room, which is on the side farthest from the road. The shower was a little dirty, but the staff treated us nicely and were very friendly. Otherwise, it was a great hotel, and I’d definitely recommend coming here!

A few hours after we checked in, the heat stopped working and we were shivering in the room. My wife and daughter were already in bed when two strangers came in wearing dirty shoes and work clothes, then poked around and opened access panels. They eventually got the heat limping along, but left the HVAC cover hanging from one screw. I propped a chair against it, hoping it wouldn’t fall during the night. Cold air and highway noise poured through a gap in the window. The HVAC kept fighting the draft, so we spent the night switching between freezing and sweating. The old, tired mattresses didn’t help. The fridge was on the floor beside the desk, where a suitcase could have gone, with the microwave balanced on top. The actual closet was empty across the room. There was no shower gel, just one sad sliver of hand soap for three people. The shower head sprayed everywhere except where it should, soaking all three of our towels. Our schedule was packed, so we didn’t have time for another parade of maintenance people in the room. We asked to switch rooms, but the hotel was fully booked, which made it seem like we weren’t the only guests who’d drawn a bad room. The lobby was under construction, and the new main entrance, which used to be a side door, was wide open and unsecured. Meanwhile, the room windows wouldn’t close, there was mold, the shower was missing grout, and there were barely enough towels to dry a cat. To be fair, the staff tried their best and seemed genuinely sorry. Management seems to think new lobby wallpaper will solve everything, and maintenance can only do so much when guests are in the room. Offering anyone a room in this condition, especially under the Hilton name, is ridiculous. Save your money and steer clear unless you want an adventure in “four-star” living.
