O.Henry Hotel

Caregiving asks so much of you around the clock, always putting someone else's needs first. My husband and I hadn't taken a getaway since we became caregivers, so finally slipping away for a weekend at our favorite place, the O. Henry Hotel in Greensboro, NC, meant a lot. At check-in, the General Manager noticed my Crocs and joked that I must be a nurse. I said I wasn't, though I do plenty of nursing as a caregiver. When she asked what we were celebrating, I mentioned my birthday, even though it had been the week before. She and her associate quietly arranged a lovely surprise: an upgrade to the Magi Suite, normally about $600 a night, with a plate of truffles and a handwritten birthday card waiting inside. It felt wonderful to be noticed and appreciated. They couldn't have known how much that kindness mattered. Thank you, Cassandra and Sherone, for making our much-needed weekend so special. This is why we keep coming back to the O. Henry Hotel. They make guests feel special and never disappoint.

The O'Henry has a historic feel, and the staff are friendly in a warm, down-home way. We felt like we were catching up with relatives we hadn't seen in a while. Our room looked a little dated, but the bathroom had been updated in a way that was both attractive and practical. Afternoon tea was fresh and the service was good. We also enjoyed above-average food and great service at the on-site restaurant.

My son is getting married on March 21st, and we planned dinner there with the wedding party. We also booked the honeymoon suite for more than $500 a night. Then we were told that because the couple are 20, we'd have to stay overnight in the room with them. I offered to show my ID at check-in, leave whatever deposit they wanted, and be there at checkout so they could inspect the room, but they still said no. The General Manager wouldn't speak to me directly. We would have spent thousands, and now there are plenty of other hotels happy to take that business. We'll also be telling our friends and neighbors in Oak Ridge NC. The management and customer service were really poor.

We were only there for one night, and the stay turned out even better than we'd hoped. At check-in we learned there'd been a water leak; the staff offered us a room at the Proximity, but we declined since things happen. Cassandra then graciously upgraded us to an amazing room, which made our anniversary weekend even more special. Dennis Quaintance was overseeing the cleanup and took time to talk with us. We already booked another stay for Valentine's Day weekend because we enjoyed it so much. We've always liked the three restaurants connected with the Quaintance-Weaver group, and our two meals at GVG were among the best in Greensboro. Thanks to Cassandra and the whole O’Henry hotel staff.
