Half the place was being renovated, and nobody told me when I made the reservations. At check-in, the whole property was dirty. My first room was marked non-smoking but smelled like a smoking room. I moved, only to find someone already staying in the next room. The third room had burns all over it. Three bad rooms in a row. Breakfast was late, and the pool wasn’t heated as advertised. The front office clerk seemed more interested in flirting with my students than sorting out the problems. A horrible experience during my school function.

The sign out front changed the day before we arrived, and now you have to pay for breakfast. We stayed for three days because the hotel was close to the family we were visiting, though we weren’t happy with that choice. Police came for criminal incidents three times in three days. I heard a child crying and women screaming and crying. Homeless people and people taking drugs sat outside at night, and a nice SUV had its windows smashed. The hotel was dirty and filthy, with loose wallpaper, stained walls, and dirt around floors and in rooms. The shower was moldy and the bathroom fan didn’t work. This is no longer a Comfort Inn; another company bought it. Don’t stay here. It isn’t safe or clean.

The staff were friendly and did the best they could, and the place felt sanitary overall. Still, it’s run down and needs repairs and updating. Most of the hotel smelled like cigarette smoke despite being non-smoking, and half the exterior door key readers didn’t work. The fitness center had been closed for some time and was being used for storage. The elevators seemed questionable too. I’d stay here again only if I had no other choice, and it would never be a top pick.

The price was right, the service was good, and I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and nicely painted, and the location near the highway was convenient while the rooms stayed quiet. My first room smelled like someone had smoked a cigar, but they graciously moved me to another one. The carpet looks like it needs replacing. It’s not the Ritz, but it isn’t priced like the Ritz either, and the staff were very accommodating.

We found several people sleeping in the hallway, and there were frequent ambulance visits, probably because so many homeless people struggling with drugs were staying at the hotel. One guest had a carjacking in the parking lot and was dragged and injured. The hallways smelled of mold, and there was mold in half the building. One night, more than 50 maggots fell from the ceiling, and there were roaches too. The pool loungers were dirty, and there were no lights outside by the pool. The new staff were rude and need hospitality training. The suites have a very '70s porn look, and their patios had dirty, burnt plastic tables and broken chairs. It used to be a great place when it was Comfort Inn, but now it’s the Plaza and they aren’t maintaining it. It almost seems like the owners don’t want guests and are running the place into the ground. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
