Swamp Rabbit Inn

The room was basic, which matched the low price, but I wouldn’t stay here again. It’s more of a boarding house than a real B&B: you won’t see the owner, and there’s a shared kitchen where guests can make their own food. There’s one AC for upstairs and one for downstairs, so the temperature depends on what the other people in the house like. My bed squeaked whenever I turned over, and the sheets felt cheap. On top of the room price, there’s a $10 cleaning fee, so I don’t understand why the booking isn’t a flat rate. I’d pay a bit more for somewhere better.

I loved the house and the location, just two blocks from my son’s place, but I’m not sure I can stay here again. I texted Pam about the heat and the Wi-Fi, and she didn’t reply to any of my five messages. The first night was miserable: it was well over 80 degrees in my room in January, then the heat came on and blasted me. I was exhausted and couldn’t sleep. The second night was fine. The Wi-Fi network they told me to use didn’t exist, either. If I’d needed to work, I would’ve had to leave and find a hotel. I really wanted this place to work for my visits with my son, but I guess I’ll have to stay at a hotel each time.

We loved having free bikes to use on the Swamp Rabbit trail, which is right around the corner. The Swamp Rabbit Inn is a hidden gem downtown, close to Reedy River Park. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. It was fun to make our own eggs, bacon, bagels, yogurt, and granola. The TV was the one letdown for my hubby, since it was really hard to figure out.

The location is still a 5, with downtown within walking distance, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here now and won’t return. The room has gone downhill since my earlier 5-star rating. On my stay a couple of weeks ago, the couch was broken, which also meant the extra bed was broken. Service was a 1 too, because no one responded. We were there on a Friday, and sirens went off from midnight until 4 a.m., so it wasn’t restful at all.
