Antons on The Lake Country Inn and Marina

The location was great, and the owner was welcoming, though it took 45 minutes to reach him so we could get into our room. We stayed the weekend before the 4th, and the room was awful: dead bugs covered every inch, with more coming through a gap of at least an inch under the outside door. There was a bad smell, the towels were yellow and gross, and the dispensers had no shampoo or soap. We'd brought our own towels, thankfully. After paying $165 for the night, I showed pictures and asked for at least a $50 refund, which they tried to deny. It was the worst room I've ever walked into. Many people there looked like they lived there year round. It could be a decent place with a really good cleaning, clean towels, and soap available for showers, but the bugs and smell ruined it.

The room at Anton's was clean and had some nice touches, including real tea cups, very soft sheets, and an amazing whirlpool tub. The accommodations and location were lovely, but management seemed disorganized. My confirmation email said check-in was before 4-8. I arrived early and waited outside the empty office until 4, then found out the owners weren't even on campus. Someone who knew them but didn't work there let me into a room, which felt awkward, though I needed to get in and didn't want to wait. It took several tries to reach anyone by phone. In the morning, housekeeping came by and seemed surprised to find us there. We also never got the complimentary breakfast the website promised. Management could be a little more professional.

We were upgraded to a jacuzzi room at no extra cost, which was a lovely surprise. It felt homey and comfortable, with no stains, smells, noises, or other annoyances. The location was very nice and fairly easy to find. The shower was a bit awkwardly built, and one lamp shorted out, but we had a very nice stay.

We had a blast spending the weekend here. The owners were so friendly, and even let us borrow their kayak and drove us to the Appalachian Trail starting point for our hike. Our room was cozy and comfortable, with a microwave, cable TV, and coffee maker. Breakfast was simple but plentiful. I'm definitely going back.
