DoubleTree by Hilton Denver Tech Center

My boyfriend stayed here for a work trip last August. After dinner on his first evening, he returned to find his work bag missing from the room. The cleaning staff were the only people who’d been in there while he was away. Staff said they’d seen the bag when they left, but it was nowhere in the room. The whole bag was gone, including confidential work and personal documents, not just a couple of items. The next morning, management confirmed nobody had keyed into the room between the staff leaving and his return. The IT person checked camera footage, but the only cameras are in the lobby, so that didn’t help. What seemed like a straightforward issue to resolve began to feel like a setup. Management seemed unconcerned and couldn’t explain how personal belongings went missing from a locked room inside the hotel. Months later, we still haven’t heard anything further from them. I don’t consider this place secure or safe, and wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The restaurant was nice, but there wasn’t much else to recommend this hotel, and I won’t be back. It’s definitely dated, with a sprawling, odd layout. My room had a tub shower that felt gross, and the place needs renovation. After a storm the night before, the cable TV wasn’t working. I wish they’d told me before I checked in. I had to haul all my stuff back to the front desk to switch rooms, which was awful after traveling all day.

The stay was decent for a spot near Denver Tech Center. The setup is cool, the room was okay, and the bathroom was small. Everyone on staff was professional and courteous, especially Drew at check-in and Tony at the bar. I’d probably stay again, but would first ask whether large groups were booked at the same time. We had to deal with teenagers running up and down stairwells, slamming doors, horsing around near the elevators, swearing in the halls, and hanging out to play hacky sack on the second-floor footbridge. On the second night, as I was drifting off, someone I assume was a group leader yelled at a group of boys in the atrium below and woke me. That wasn’t the staff’s fault, but it’s useful for other guests to know what they might encounter. Entitled, inconsiderate guests seem to be more of a problem these days.

The rooms are run down and dated, and the lighting feels harsh instead of cozy. Breakfast isn’t free like at other Hiltons, and the so-called pool is just a hole in the ground inside the hotel.
