Comfort Inn & Suites Greenwood near University

Carolina was so kind and helpful, and our room was really clean. My boyfriend was playing football at Erskine College, so I came for the weekend and we just needed an affordable place for one night. We loved staying here and will definitely come back.

We checked out right away. This didn’t feel like a clean, comfortable, or safe place to stay, and I’d look elsewhere until management makes major improvements and is more upfront about how the property is being used. I later learned it was housing vulnerable people in the community. I support helping people in need, but guests weren’t told about this, and the situation didn’t seem managed in a way that felt safe or sanitary. There were people hanging around outside, and in the lobby we saw someone who appeared to be under the influence slumped over a breakfast table. That felt especially unsettling for families with children. The exterior looked like a typical Comfort Inn & Suites, with decorative plants and a pool, but inside was another story. The dated lobby was cluttered with tools, and a strong dirty-mop-water smell hit us as soon as we walked in. The old carpets throughout the hotel smelled bad too. I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt I should share this experience to help other travelers. The Comfort Inn & Suites in Greenwood, SC wasn’t what I expected from a Choice Hotel property.

The staff are the only reason I gave Comfort Inn & Suites two stars. I stayed because every decent hotel in Greenwood, SC was booked that week, which I didn’t expect in this little A town. My room had flies, and I couldn’t figure out where they kept coming from. One was dead by the entrance, and it stayed there even after I let housekeeping in while I was at work. They never swept. They brought fresh towels and made the bed, but left the dirty towels and face cloths in the same spot each time. The place is extremely dated, with a strange smell right when you walk in. The carpets are old and seem never to have been shampooed, the couch is stained, and the bathroom has broken wood and a stained shower. While I was there, some kind of wrestling championship was going on, and kids on the second floor ran back and forth indoors like they were outside.

I’m sitting here at the hotel now, and I hardly ever write reviews. Greenwood is my hometown and I visit often, but I won’t stay here again. For $160 or more a night, I expected better. The first floor is a mess: several room doors are in disrepair, paint is peeling, and some baseboards are ripped up, missing, or hanging loose. The hallway smells odd. I’m also concerned about the room’s cleanliness. The bed linen is stained, there’s gum in the carpet, and there’s a beer cap and other debris on the floor.
