Hampton Inn Portland East

Breakfast was good, though other Hampton Inn locations offer more. The rooms had an older smell to them. Still, for the area and the price, I had a great experience and was pleasantly surprised.

The toilet in my room didn't work the first night, so I had to call and wait for maintenance. The hotel is in a sketchy part of town, and there's little security to protect guests. Anyone from the street can walk in through the lobby. If you run into problems with service, cleanliness, or safety, you're left on your own. What happened to me was worse. During my stay from October 13-17, an anonymous guest followed me from the lobby to my room without my knowing. That person then called the front desk, gave them my room number, and falsely accused me of selling meth. After 10pm, the general manager called my room landline and woke me up to warn me meth wasn't allowed on the property. I've never done anything illegal like that. My privacy was violated, and the employees treated me like a criminal when I contacted the general manager and front desk. Don't waste your money here. There are much better places in town.

The one thing that really worried me was razor wire at toddler face height, strung between trees along the parking lot by the vacant lot. I'm scared a small child could get caught in it, so please remove it. Otherwise, the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and breakfast was great. It felt like a safe location, and I'd definitely come back. A solid three-star hotel.

My fiance and I spent a few days here and had a great time. I don't know what the negative reviews are about. The staff were all friendly and the amenities were great. I'd absolutely stay again.
