The night staff are awesome, but the day staff suck and willingly violate your rights. Maintenance is below par. It’s a shelter now, and clients in mental health crisis ask the day staff for help and get ignored. The Sunshine Division donates 6000lbs of food each month, and most of it goes home with staff. Overall, it is what it is, and part of why the government isn’t winning its battle with houselessness. When KGW8 interviewed me about our city, county, and state leaders asking the feds for money to address houselessness, I said, “It’s nothing more than a drop in a leaky bucket and it might be able to help 2 people long term because most of it would end up going to overhead and administrative costs. That if they truly wanted to eradicate houselessness, they needed to go back to where it all went wrong. By restoring hope and health. Because people without hope won't try, and without health they can't afford to try.”

The friendly staff let us park our motorcycle on the sidewalk right outside the office window, which was really nice, and the rooms were clean. But the beds were so soft you sank into a pit in the middle of the mattress and couldn’t pull yourself out. Two outlets didn’t work, and one was hanging by its wires. People kept coming and going from rooms at 2 and 3am, slamming doors over and over. I’d give four stars if I could, but it was right after the 4th of July and the room cost a lot. It wasn’t worth what we paid, though we needed somewhere to stay.

The room was nice and the stay itself was fine, but it smelled of smoke, maybe a little or maybe a lot. The motel associate warned me there was a smoking problem and said I’d be fined a lot if I smoked, which I understood. Three months later, I checked my credit card statement and saw that most, but not all, of my $100 incidental deposit had been returned. I have no idea why. Is someone at this Super 8 trying to get a few extra dollars from customers? Has this happened to anyone else? My main issue is that they never told me why. They have my email, since Super 8 always emails after I book online, so it would have been easy to send a breakdown of what they said I damaged and what it cost to fix. I think the reason they didn’t is that I didn’t cause $10 worth of damage.

The room was noisy from every direction: it faced a busy street, the neighbors were loud or the walls were thin enough for us to hear doors slamming every 10 minutes, and it was right by the ice machine. We stayed only one night, thank God, and it was one of our worst experiences at a Super 8. Our room wasn’t ready when we got the keys, but no one apologized or offered another room, so we waited. After that, the staff seemed to take our frustration personally and were rude and unfriendly. My girlfriend and I said hello to the woman with tattoos on her hands, whose name I don’t remember, and she didn’t answer. Staff then acted like we weren’t there. I’m thinking about sending a serious complaint to Corporate Management about their attitude. We’ll avoid this motel in the future.

The front desk woman was friendly and helpful, which matters a lot when you arrive late after a long drive. The room was clean and had enough towels. Breakfast was the usual fare, waffles included. A couple of things needed attention: the shower curtain rail was loose and the shower gel and shampoo dispenser was empty. There’s no elevator, so getting a second-floor room could be an issue if stairs are difficult for you. Otherwise, this Super 8 was pretty typical.
