Comfort Inn Griswold

The carpets could have used a vacuum, including in our room, the hallways, and the public stairway. Aside from that, we had a great stay: clean room, comfy bed, decent breakfast, and nice help at the front desk. It was 19 minutes from the Mohegan Sun convention center, and that worked out well. I’d stay here again.

Debbie, the manager, kept checking in to make sure we were doing alright, and the staff were quick to help when a few things in our room needed fixing after we arrived. We were here for a few nights because my daughter got sick, and we wanted to keep an immunocompromised family member safe at home. The kids have enjoyed this little staycation so much they don’t want to leave, and they’re already looking forward to coming back for my son’s birthday.

The room switch was easy when the first one had a strange smell, and the desk attendant gave us a second-floor room without any trouble. That room seemed better at first, though after a few hours we noticed a slight urine smell. We’d unpacked and were leaving the next day, so we stayed put. The room looked clean, and the place was pretty affordable compared with other hotels. Staff were great, and the pool and hot tub were the best part. The free breakfast wasn’t very tasty. I know it was complimentary, but I still think it should be made well. The room also needed some simple practical touches: just one towel hook on the bathroom door, nowhere useful to hang wet towels or clothes, and the tub could use a nonslip mat. The light switches were oddly set up, too. A few more hooks or a towel bar wouldn’t seem like much to add. The stay was okay, but I’d pay a few dollars more for a better hotel.

The indoor pool was heated to 86 degrees, which felt great with the wind chill below zero outside. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and everything I needed was there and working. Breakfast was included, with a good range of hot and cold choices that stayed stocked. I was in Griswold, CT for a couple of days dealing with a family issue after a nonstop drive from SC, and they let me check in a little early. Everyone I dealt with was helpful and polite. The overnight desk employee also went out of his way to handle my requests with a smile and a professional, positive attitude. I’ll absolutely stay here again when I’m in the area.
