Holiday Inn Express & Suites Augusta West - Fort Gordon by IHG

I travel for work several times a month and don’t usually post reviews, but this was beyond anything I’ve experienced. At 6 a.m., someone entered my room while I was naked in the bathroom. Then at 8, a female staff member came to my room and demanded that I go downstairs, show my license, and sign a registration card. I’d already uploaded and signed digitally the night before, and the check-in clerk had confirmed that. I had a migraine, which made the whole situation especially impactful. The staff member was extremely rude, and I don’t think she should be in a customer service role. Women, I felt very unsafe here.

The lobby has a coffee and tea machine you can use any time, day or night, which I liked. Breakfast was decent, with the usual yogurt, cereal, and juice, plus different hot items each day. There’s also a pancake station, though I didn’t try it. Most of the hotel looks recently renovated, and my room was spacious and well equipped, so it was a pretty decent place to stay in town. A couple of details let it down: the pillows were awful, with only thin, soft or thin, firm options, and the switches and outlets looked old and grimy. Replacing those would have made a difference to the room’s look and feel.

The front desk team recognized us from our last visit, which made us feel welcome. Their service was ten stars! Our room was very clean and much bigger than a typical hotel room. The bed was comfortable, and the pullout sofa seemed nearly new. The heat worked well without that burnt smell you sometimes get in hotels. We loved the guava passion fruit juice at breakfast, and the coffee was fantastic.

The room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable, so it was a great stay overall. I had trouble getting the air conditioner adjusted. Breakfast was okay, though the serving utensils were sitting in the dishes and got extremely hot. The eggs were runny but tasted fine.
