Gun Barrel Executive Inn

There's a little outdoor pool that seems to be busy most of the time, though it doesn't make much noise or get in the way. The rooms are clean enough and come with some toiletries. They're decent, with a flat-screen TV, microwave, fridge, and good AC. For a very small-town motel, it's about what you can expect. We always stay here when we visit family in town.

For $55, this was more than I expected. The room was large, seemed clean, and had a comfortable bed and a fold-out couch. The microwave and fridge both worked, and the TV and cable reception were better than at a lot of high-end hotels. Check-in was quick and pleasant. I booked a smoking room for my roommate, who smokes, and I barely noticed a smell. I would've been fine sleeping there either way. They'd warned me in advance that the phone didn't work, which wasn't a concern since I have a cell. WiFi was free but pretty useless, and the vending area was locked, so I had to go to the office for ice. We stayed one night and didn't try the breakfast. This isn't a high-end hotel, and with reasonable expectations I was quite happy.

The staff were very friendly, and the room was comfortable with a nice TV and cable package. But I depend a lot on the Internet, and it was practically nonexistent. On the rare occasions it connected, it was extremely slow. I probably wouldn't come back because of that, though if Internet access doesn't matter much to you, it's a nice, clean, comfortable stay.

The owner was rude and wouldn't let us bring our little dogs in when the AC went out. We already had them with us, and he finally agreed to let them into the room, but charged us another $100 for both. They're Chihuahuas, not pit bulls. Guests aren't allowed to visit, either. If I could rate it zero, I would. I also left a pair of earrings on the nightstand by the bed. I was told they weren't there, and I never got them back. Between the rudeness and that, it felt like they were thieves.
