WoodSpring Suites Gurnee - Chicago

The room was in rough shape, with a bad smell, holes in the wall and bathroom door, mold in the bathroom, and dirty walls. The business photos didn’t prepare me for it. My partner felt unsafe, so we left right away and booked somewhere else. I should’ve read the reviews first. Outside, people were hanging around and smoking, and the air smelled of cigarettes, though a friendly, helpful worker greeted me inside and got me checked in after I decided to give the place a chance.

At least the location worked for us, close to six flaggs and not too far from Gurnee Mills. But we left almost as soon as we arrived and were told we wouldn’t get a refund. The room had hair in the bed, a dirty kitchenette, and a loose toilet seat. We asked to switch rooms, but the manager said that wasn’t possible because the cleaning person had quit. She offered to bring clean sheets, then never came, so I went down to get them. They looked wrinkled and not fresh, and once I opened them upstairs I found a black stain. Getting to that room was unpleasant too. At our 3 PM check-in, the lobby was full of unsupervised children screaming, with several sketchy-looking people loitering outside. We waited a long time for help. The front desk representative seemed overworked, though she stayed kind and professional. I rarely leave a negative review, but our stay at WoodSpring Suites Gurnee was unacceptable. The place felt unclean and unsafe, and badly managed.

It’s mostly quiet here, day and night. Around 5-8ish pm, you can hear a little movement and murmuring in the hall, which is enough to remind you other people are around. The rooms and amenities are clean and work properly, and the staff have been kind and really helpful.

There are plenty of nearby places to eat and things the whole family can enjoy. We’ve been here for the past month, and the service has been great, with friendly, smiling staff and what we need whenever we need it. When my two boys and I arrived, only a single-bed room was available, but Sherman did what he could and got us into a two-bed room almost right away. I’ve had no complaints, and our experience at Woodspring Suites in Gurnee has been phenomenal.
