Vagabond Inn Hacienda Heights

We felt uncomfortable and harassed by the desk clerk, so we asked the website supervisor to cancel the reservation and decided we wouldn't give them our business. We had to find another hotel at short notice, and I wouldn't recommend anyone book here. I'd booked this stay on Expedia back in May. At check-in, the rude, disrespectful clerk turned me away even though I had a confirmation number. He wouldn't listen or talk to me, and told me to call the website. When Expedia's representative tried to speak with him through my phone, he refused, saying they had to call him directly. They called within seconds, and he told them he hadn't confirmed my reservation, then hung up. The representative on my end passed me to a supervisor to escalate it. While that was happening, my friend asked the clerk how much a standard room for one night would cost, since we were attending a wedding that evening. He asked whether she wanted a single or double bed. Stressed by the whole situation, she said single, since we didn't mind sharing. He looked her up and down, asked whether it was for her and me, then said we wouldn't fit together because the bed was king size. He quoted her a double-bed price instead of the single she asked about. There was no need for body shaming, especially toward potential customers. That was embarrassing on the staff's and company's behalf. Later I called the booking office to ask the clerk's name. He refused to tell me and hung up when I asked again.

Rats, cockroaches, and snakes. Yes, there was a snake in my room.

It wasn't in amazing shape and felt a bit run down, so I'd only come back if I really needed to save the money. Still, it wasn't as bad as I expected. We got nice rooms with new mattresses, no AC smell, and no bugs. I think we may have gotten the nicer rooms, though, so I can imagine it being worse.
