The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and Tammy at the desk was always so friendly when we chatted or booked our reservation. We stayed the last couple of nights and had a great experience all around. We’ll definitely come back.

The other employees were great, and I’ve made good friends with guides up there over the years. But I was shocked by how the male owner treated us, and I won’t give this place my business again. The beds are rock hard, too, and there are better places nearby for the same price. My sister and her boyfriend wanted to fish with us but didn’t want to sleep in our wheelhouse because it had bunk beds. I called around, found this was the only place with an opening, and booked one room for two nights. After fishing late the first day, I had them clean our fish. We went out to eat, and when my sister returned around 10, her door code didn’t work. She called Marshall, who blamed her and was rude. She waited outside for half an hour, then called again. They’d changed the code without telling her. He gave no apology and hung up. The next day, staff had trouble finding our fish. My brand new pail was missing, and I was told it wasn’t their problem. I cleaned that day’s catch with my sister, her boyfriend, and my wife helping and learning. The owner came in and yelled at me for using their cleaning Shack because I wasn’t a registered guest, even though my sister was there and I’d paid for the room. I couldn’t take any more and told him it was ridiculous, I’d never come back, and I had nothing positive to say. He seemed to have anger issues. I’ve never had anything close to this happen up there. He should enjoy life and be nice.

I come here for a solo trophy hunt and a chance to get away from everything, and Lake Road Lodge is just right for it. The location is great, about 4 minutes from the boat ramp at wheelers. For fishing at zippel, get a park pass and it’s a 10 minute drive. This is my second year staying here, and both visits have been fantastic. The rooms are clean, the cooking facilities are nice, and the fiah cleaning room is great. The owners are friendly and work hard to accommodate. See you next year, maybe sooner.

During our stay on the ice, my father-in-law had a medical emergency in the middle of the night. The staff went above and beyond to get him to the hospital. We had everything we needed, and the service was excellent. I’d come back to fish Lake of the Woods here. Catching my 24" walleye was a nice bonus. 😊
