The Harrison Hotel Downtown Hollywood FL, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The front desk staff were super nice, definitely 5/5, and the location was great. Parking was included and good, though the spaces were really tight. My son also liked some of the fun features for kids. It’s an enclosed, motel-style setup, and you can hear a lot of noise from nearby rooms at night. The place is obviously dated and run on the cheap, but I don’t have any major complaints. My room keys randomly stopped working twice, which was frustrating when I was tired and just wanted to get back in.

The neighborhood was charming, with lots of choices for good meals, and the complimentary breakfast ran for extended hours with plenty of protein. The pool is brand new, too. What a nice surprise this place was. The room felt spacious and comfortable, and the lighting, linens, and hospitality were on par with much pricier places. The bathroom had lots of towel racks, hooks, and shelves, so a couple doesn’t have to fight over space. Loved it!

Jennifer at the front desk was professional, helpful, efficient, and very nice. The other staff I dealt with were abrupt and unhelpful. The pool was relaxing, the water temperature was great, and there were plenty of towels. The location was convenient, about 20 minutes from FLL airport, with lots of nice restaurants nearby. The room was spacious, but cleanliness was poor, the bathroom was small, and the shower only had cold water. The toiletries were poor as well. Breakfast was bad: the attendant was rude, wore no gloves, and handled food while holding the trash or a dirty rag.

The location was a real plus, close to major attractions and transit, which made getting around easy. We were there for one night before a cruise, so that mattered a lot. But the room’s condition overshadowed that convenience. At first glance, everything looked clean and presentable. When I checked the bedding more closely, I found four mattress covers layered on one mattress. One of the inner covers had what looked like fresh urine stains, with a strong, unmistakable odor. That was unacceptable and left me seriously concerned about housekeeping and infection control. Clean bedding is a basic expectation, and this fell far short. I hope the hotel quickly improves its cleaning procedures and quality checks.
