Check-in left us uncomfortable for the rest of the stay. The man at the front counter that night, who I believe is the owner, was rude. He assumed the reservation was in my girlfriend’s name, demanded her ID, and said the ID had to match the name on the debit card I had used to book online. She explained it was under my name, not hers, but he kept insisting it was hers. I told him it was under my name, and he still denied it. She asked how he knew her name, since no name had been mentioned, and he replied with my name: “You are Chris Lara, not him”. That made it clear he’d been assuming the whole time, and we felt uneasy afterward. The washer didn’t clean my girlfriend’s laundry thoroughly, and even on high heat the dryer left the clothes just as wet as they were when they came out of the dirty washer. The TV remote didn’t work either. The key card was extremely difficult to use, and I had to ask the front desk several times for help fixing it and getting back into my room. They also seemed stingy with extras such as shampoo. The free breakfast had less variety than any hotel breakfast I’ve seen. I paid extra to extend checkout to 12:00 p.m. At 11:59, while I was getting ready to leave, housekeeping and the manager or owner, I’m not sure which, knocked on the door. I felt rushed, and it came across as rude.

The morning we left, someone from housekeeping opened our door before 8:30 even though the Do Not Disturb sign was up, and asked if we were checking out. Checkout wasn't until 11. The TV also kept cutting in and out. There were bugs in the room the night we stayed, and I reported them to the front desk. I booked online, where I saw no mention of an extra charge, and was told on February 13 that the refund would go back to my card. By the 17th it still hadn't arrived. When I called to ask about it, the woman at the desk yelled at me and was completely disrespectful. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at.

The bathroom sink is right by the entrance, as soon as you come through the door. The room was clean apart from the carpet, and the pillows were small and lumpy.

For a small town in western Maryland, you get a lot for your money here. It's near the interstate, but feels better equipped than a typical highway motel. Parking is fairly close, and there are luggage carts and an elevator. Ice and sundries are inside by the lobby. In the room, everything was clean and working, from the fridge and microwave to the simple TV remote and its many channels. There were more outlets and USB ports than usual, and the lighting was good without feeling harsh or overly automated. The bathroom has ventilation, a separate sink, and plenty of mirrors. The bed and linens were clean and good quality, and the wall thermostat controlled the temperature accurately. Wi-Fi worked, the phone offered courtesy calls, and the breakfast area was a step up from basic continental. The staff were attentive and professional. It's a much better value than you'll find around DC, while still not too far away.

Aji at reception was really helpful. The location is great, with everything nearby. Check-in and checkout were quick, the lobby service was great, and breakfast was ready on time. The room was clean, not bad at all, and didn't smell. Good price for a quick trip. I'd recommend this hotel in Hagerstwon.
