Econo Lodge Hagerstown

The front desk man was friendly, but I felt less safe here than I ever have at a motel or hotel. The building seemed run down, the room floors were sticky, and the whole place had a crime-ridden feel. Marijuana and chemical odors filled the building.

My card was charged twice, and even after my bank showed them the charges, they kept denying it and still had my card number written down while trying to take more money. The staff were rude. There were bed bugs and roaches, plus cigarette smell and dirt everywhere. I got bites all over from the bed bugs, and I'm deathly allergic to roaches. Days later, I'm still sick. Do not stay here.

The staff made check-in easy and were accommodating, and they offered helpful recommendations. My room was spacious, clean, and had modern amenities. I had a comfortable, convenient stay and would happily recommend the place.

Room 261 was a wreck, and neither my mother nor I could breathe once we stepped inside. It reeked of some kind of bug killer. We'd driven around 12 hours from Tennessee and needed sleep, but that wasn't happening. My mother showered while I let our two cats out of their carriers, which was a huge mistake. We were there about an hour, and the smell got into our clothes, supply bags, carriers, and cats. I still don't know if it was safe for pets. The hotel says it's pet friendly, and my cats seem okay so far, but I'm monitoring them and trying to get the odor off them, their bowls, and the carriers. It's been difficult. When we left, my mother asked for a refund, though I don't know if she got one. A clerk offered another room, but my mother said it was just as bad and had only one bed. Later, she said the clerk blamed the condition on homeless people staying in the Econo-Lodge side, which they apparently don't take as good care of as the Quality Inn side. The hallways smelled of bleach and other strong cleaners, and there were no open windows or doors to air them out. Around the entrance, there were lots of homeless people, with some lingering at the doors. When you unlocked the door, you'd hold it open for them, thinking they were coming in too. The service gets a 3 because my mom could easily get a room and check us in right away, and the location gets a 2 because there was space for our 20-foot U-Haul with a tow. If you need a pet-friendly stay, I'd avoid this place. About 30 miles north, roughly 30 minutes away, Chambersburg, PA has a La Quinta with big truck parking and pets allowed, or the Comfort Inn where we stayed. It also has big truck parking and allows pets. The prices were about the same.
