The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

We spent three days there and never ate at the hotel. The setting is beautiful, but the food choices felt very limited, especially for anything quick or casual. The casual dinner option was still extremely expensive, so we ended up getting the car from valet at least four times to find food elsewhere. The main dining area was apparently busy because there was only one waiter, and we were told to try the bar. It was full of guys occupying whole tables with their laptops. We asked whether we could wait at the nearby tables and be told when a spot opened, but were told the bar was first come, first served. We could eat at the nearby area, but had to go to the bar to order and pick up the food. I wasn't going to pay $38 for a burger I had to order myself. There weren't any other quick service options. The place seems suited to people happy to eat at the same overpriced spot every night, but that wasn't us. It's beautiful, but not just for the rich, also for the unadventurous.

The spa was a relaxing oasis, with a lovely sauna and saltwater pools. I didn't get to the pool, though I think it was beautiful, set in the conservancy. The Club was also a pleasure, with golf course and ocean views, comfortable seats, and a fireplace. Its food and drink offerings felt carefully prepared, with something for everyone, a well stocked bar, and some excellent nonalcoholic choices. The room was beautifully appointed, with colors that made it feel calm and beachy. I appreciated the little amenities and all the details, from the drapes to the fire pit warming over the bluff. The bed was very comfortable, and my sister and I both slept deeply without disturbing each other. I loved the marble bathroom, and the automatic light was an elegant idea. The staff made the stay for me. Every person I met was gracious, kind, and a delight. Before I arrived, I enjoyed speaking with Miriam at guests relations. Tristen was a kind, informative, and helpful valet when we arrived. Justin made sure I had the information I needed at the front desk, and Valerie was helpful and kind on the phone. Briana and Rosina at The Club were charming and helpful, and made us feel welcome and cared for, as though they were happy to be there with us. I wish I'd had more cash to tip them all well. More than that, they seemed like genuinely good people. This is my favorite Ritz Carlton. I appreciate San Francisco and Ft Lauderdale too, and Chicago could provide a warmer experience. For me, the employees are what make or break a Ritz. Staying at The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay was a delight, and I hope to return.

The food was top notch, and the service somehow was even better. It was my partner's birthday, and they left us an amenity in the room, which was really nice. The ocean, cliffs, golf course, fire pits, and decor all made the place incredible. Calling the atmosphere immaculate wouldn't even cover it. Ritz-Carlton always delivers, and this property did too. It's easily the best hotel I've stayed at so far in my life. If a room with a fire pit is available, I'd recommend getting it. It's worth it.

One of my son's and my favorite parts was practicing together at the putting range in the afternoon, with the ocean breeze. It's a memory we'll always treasure. We also had an excellent meal at the restaurant, then took a breathtaking walk along the cliffs and watched the bagpiper perform at sunset. Such a magical touch. Our ocean-view room was beautiful, with stunning coastline views and a lovely place to unwind. From arrival, the staff took wonderful care of us and made the visit feel special. The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay is elegant and welcoming, with thoughtful details throughout. We had a wonderful stay and can't wait to return.
