Oakcliff Bed and Breakfast

John made us feel so welcome and was incredibly accommodating. Breakfast was delicious, served in a beautiful dining room, and we loved how comfortable our room was. The attached bathroom was elegant, and the house is full of wonderful antiques and art, with an amazing view of the river. Such a charming B&B. We can't wait to come back.

Breakfast had a huge range of really tasty choices, instead of the single option you get at almost every B&B. John, the owner, was so helpful, too. The old house overlooks the canal of the Mohawk River and is filled with actual antiques, not just old furniture. It's only a 25-minute ride to Saratoga Springs, so staying here means fewer crowds and less hassle, and it's more economical. I'd recommend this inn to anyone.

We came to the Albany area for a wedding, and Oakcliff wasn't very close to the wedding activities. The extra travel time was worth it to stay in such an amazing B&B. Let yourself slow down and enjoy the quiet and the views over the Mohawk River, which 4 Presidents also looked out on: Grant, Hayes, Garfield and Arthur. Breakfast is included, and you can choose from things like fresh fruit and cheese, omelets, and French toast. John makes and serves it himself. He's clearly put a lot of care into running and restoring Oakcliff. For about 30 years he's meticulously worked on this 1835 property, including the process of getting it onto the National Register of Historic Places. The rooms are all decorated with antiques and period pieces. If you're into history and antiques, this is a must, and it was fun meeting people from the US and abroad. We met and had dinner with a PhD student from Berlin, Germany. It really does feel like stepping back in time.

The river view from our room was breathtaking, and the bed was so comfortable I barely moved all night. John was the perfect host. Everything was top notch.
