The location is superb, with easy access to the subway, stores, and the Bridge. The hotel itself, though, reminded me of my college dorm. The mid-century modern furnishings look tired, and there aren’t many amenities. There were people in hoodies with their MacBooks around. Our room had a broken lamp, the Wi-Fi went down for a few hours, and I had to go to the restaurant to pick up room service. The staff were genuinely lovely, but I just couldn’t love the place.

For my daughter’s wedding, we stayed at the Ace Hotel for two nights. It was a great space and well located for the wedding venue. The hotel felt super welcoming and definitely has a vibe. Our room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. It’s priced like New York City, so keep that in mind, but all in all it’s a great choice.

Even the smaller rooms feel spacious, and they’re comfortable, clean, and well equipped. I especially appreciate the blackout curtains and the in-room fridge. The whole hotel has a cool vibe, the amenities are nice, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I don’t usually like staying in hotels, but I genuinely look forward to staying here.

Lovely atmosphere and really nice architecture, but they forgot my pizza order and the toothpaste I asked to have brought to the room. I booked through airbnb and only heard about the hidden “destination fee” of 40$/night at checkout. I’ve booked lots of hotels through airbnb in the US and Europe and never had that happen before, so that was quite a disappointment.

The most stressful part was the $300 deposit hold. After checkout, the hotel confirmed in writing that the remaining hold had been released on April 30, 2026, and gave me an approval code. But as of May 27, well beyond the 10-15 business days the hotel itself quoted, the full authorization was still active on my card. What the hotel said in writing didn’t match my account, and I’ve had to contact both the hotel and my credit card company repeatedly to try to sort it out. For an international guest, that lack of follow-through and unclear handling is genuinely stressful. I also wasn’t clearly told that the in-room bottled water cost $8 per bottle. We only confirmed the price with the amenity staff afterward, when a $16.77 charge appeared on my card for two bottles plus tax. After a long international flight and late-night arrival, that was a poor first impression. At checkout, staff handed me an invoice without explaining the charges, so I had to ask for a breakdown. For this price point, I expected clearer communication and more attentive service. I chose Ace Hotel Brooklyn because, as a branding designer, I’d long admired the brand’s strong identity and thoughtful sense of place. I expected an authentic Brooklyn experience, but the stay fell well short. I booked the ADA Medium room based on listing photos showing a sofa, but the room I got had none. When I raised that with the front desk, they didn’t acknowledge the discrepancy or show much empathy, and I felt I had to justify a reasonable concern. The gym was noticeably smaller and more dated than the brand image suggests. The lobby and common areas looked stylish, but the experience didn’t feel as considered or welcoming as the Ace brand implies. Overall, the gap between the brand and what I experienced was significant, and I wouldn’t stay here again.
