Square Hotel at Times Square

Val at the front desk and the concierge were both great and helpful. The location is also very good, but the room service was poor enough that I probably wouldn’t return or recommend the hotel. We arrived Friday. When I went to the desk on Sunday to ask for clean towels, the staff member said rooms are serviced every three days and ours wasn’t due until Monday. I explained that our wet towels were in a pile on the floor and needed replacing. After we went out for the day, staff entered the room and left clean towels, but also left the wet, dirty ones piled on the floor.

The room and bathroom were both a good size for me, and the room was clean. The front desk staff were super friendly and helpful, and the location was great. I got a good deal, too. They dropped the ball on my early check-in after my flight landed at 6 a.m., but they quickly got a room ready for me. After checkout, they held my bags for free until my 4 p.m. shuttle, so I could spend more time exploring the city. I loved my stay and will come back when I visit NY.

I was nervous after reading all the horror reviews, but our deluxe room was clean and comfortable. It was basic, and maybe we avoided the worst by getting a deluxe room. There wasn’t a window facing the street, so it stayed pretty quiet, and the bed was comfy. A great base for walking around, and I had no complaints.

The early check-in and location were the only reasons I gave it two stars. The room was so small there was barely space for luggage, never mind a fridge or microwave. The shower shelf was broken, the heater barely worked, and strange sounds from the bathroom kept going all night, like someone wrenching on pipes. We were on the first floor near the elevators and restrooms, so people and loud noises carried through the night. Other reviews get a standard response that these problems are highly unusual, but they don’t seem unusual to me. I shared my feedback at checkout and got a simple thank you.
