Hotel St. James

Even during Winter Storm Fern, we could still get out to see the sights in the snow because everything we wanted to do was so central. Times Square is just outside to the right. The staff helped us Floridians understand what to expect, and we stayed warm. Our room kept warm and the bed was comfortable. We'd absolutely stay again.

The place has a fun Twilight Zone feel, in a good way, and I really enjoyed my stay. It's a small, charming hotel just around the corner from Times Square, with clean, pleasant rooms. Connolly’s next door is an Irish bar worth checking out for its food and service.

When the blizzard threw our travel plans into disarray, the staff were great about helping us adjust. They added one night to our stay and held a room for a second night without asking us to pay in advance, in case we needed it. We didn't end up using that extra night, but it was reassuring to have the option. They also let us check out late while our plans were still up in the air. We picked Hotel St. James for its very reasonable rate and proximity to Radio City Music Hall, where we were seeing Jason Isbell. The amenities are basic, but the hotel was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a fantastic experience and would recommend it to anyone wanting to be near Broadway and Times Square without needing deluxe accommodations.

A very basic place to use as a base for exploring Times Square, rather than a destination in itself. The price was a great deal and the room was clean. There's a flight of stairs at the entrance to this historic hotel, though thankfully the elevators were working. Rooms use old fashioned radiators, which you adjust by hand with the black knob at the lower left. Call ahead if you have accessibility requests.
