Best Western Plus Hollywood/Aventura

The only good thing was being a short drive from the beach. The room was filthy when we checked in, the tub and sink wouldn’t drain, and a mildew smell had been covered up somehow. It set off my asthma so badly that we had to book somewhere else, even though we’d already paid for four nights. At the front desk, they didn’t seem to care and just kept telling people there were no rooms to move us to. When we got home, we found that the full stay had been charged twice. I know people are trying to save money these days, but please avoid this place. You might sleep better in your car. I didn’t expect five stars, or even four, but Best Western really needs to do better. Spend money on the actual rooms instead of a cappuccino machine in the breakfast area. I’m done venting.

At checkout, I asked whether anything could be done about our stay. The front desk shrugged and said they’d report the issues. There was no apology or resolution, and I wouldn’t return or recommend this Best Western Plus. We were in Room 508. We arrived a couple of hours early and got a poor reception at the desk. After I gave my name and confirmed the reservation, they told me to sit down without explaining why. I had to ask if we’d come too early. We were eventually allowed to leave our bags in an open room. The floor had a strong musty, mold-like smell. The room looked clean at first, but the TV picture was grainy, and the toilet flushed slowly before clogging by the next morning. Maintenance fixed it while we were out, but took all the bathroom towels. The front desk handed us replacements without apologizing. There was staining in the bathroom that looked like painted-over mold, and the shower head came off and hit me while I was showering, so maintenance had to come back. Breakfast was unacceptable. There was very little food and no staff to help. The eggs were watery, the yogurt was watery too, and the sausages were poor quality. One toaster was serving more than 20 guests. The coffee machines backed up, and the backup coffee was undrinkable. We ate breakfast elsewhere for the remaining two days. The elevator doors wouldn’t close when more guests got in, which raised safety concerns.

We stayed one night as a family and were really underwhelmed. The rooms were nowhere near what we expected for the price, and the front desk service was awful. The man handling check-in refused to help or cooperate. There were four of us and only two towels. When my wife asked for more so we could shower, he opened a downstairs door and said none were available, even though she saw a whole stack of clean towels. Plenty of other things went wrong too, but I’d have to write a novel to list them all. We won’t use this hotel again.

Elizabeth and Osiris made me feel comfortable during my stay. Their customer service was outstanding, and they were resourceful whenever I had a request. I also met Dolores from housekeeping. She was very polite and added to the welcoming atmosphere.
