Ambassador Inn & Suites

My wife and I were supposed to stay here after our cruise, but we were told the port would be closed and we wouldn’t be able to get to the hotel. There was no cell service onboard, so I texted my daughter to cancel the reservation. The man she spoke to had no empathy, wouldn’t listen, and hung up on her several times. After I got back, I emailed the GM, but they didn’t care about our situation. I stay at Choice Hotels often because I travel for work many times a week. I won’t choose them again.

I was in the room for less than five minutes and still couldn’t get my money back. The pillows looked messy, as though someone had been lying on the bed before guests were given the room. It smelled of cigarette smoke, the bathtub was very dirty, and paint was peeling. This is the dirtiest place I’ve seen in a long time. Terrible hotel. Don’t come unless cleanliness doesn’t matter to you.

We were charged for an extra night just 20 minutes after checking out, which was the final straw. We’d checked into Quality Inn for one night after driving for several hours toward North Carolina, and soon realized it was a bad choice. The building was very outdated, and the room wasn’t clean to standard: dirt marks were visible on sheets, pillowcases, and towels, the tub had what looked like stains, and the furniture was damaged. Several lights didn’t work, the chair cushions were stained, and the broken door lock made us feel unsafe. The area was convenient, with restaurants, gas stations, and stores nearby, but we’d have been better off sleeping in the car. Look elsewhere if you’re traveling through.

The staff were very friendly and parking was good, but the room wasn’t cleaned once during my four-day stay. The so-called free breakfast was a joke: a few slices of white bread, two kinds of dry cereal, regular coffee with no decaf, vanilla creamer, and Sweet’N Low and regular sugar. There was a pancake machine, though I never saw whether it worked. I’d booked a non-smoking room, yet the bedspread and sheets had obvious cigarette burn holes all over them. The walls were filthy, and thick cobwebs hung above the front door. The bedside lamp outlets didn’t work, making it nearly impossible to charge my phone or tablet.
