The location was the only reason I gave this place three stars. The room was badly run down, and the bathroom was ridiculously tiny. The shower walls were cracked, and the showerhead was only about eight inches from the wall, so anyone bigger might have a hard time. The door only had a knob lock, and the chain was missing its end, so it couldn’t be secured. My wife worried after we found that someone had entered while we were out and turned off the AC. We’d checked in at 2:50 p.m. on 7/19/24, brought in our suitcase, turned on the AC because the room was very hot, then left to eat and enjoy Hampton beach. When we got back a little after 9 p.m., it was hot again. There’s no timer, and the knob has to be turned all the way off, so someone had switched it off in the room we’d paid for. I understand a window AC costs money to run, but that was alarming. I pushed a chair under the doorknob to feel safer at night. Calling the place dated to the 1950s, as others have, doesn’t do the 50s justice.

We enjoyed staying here, especially being close to Old Salt Restaurant and away from the bustle and noise right on the beachfront. Lafayette is a busy street and there’s some traffic noise, but sidewalks on both sides make it easy to walk safely to local businesses. The place is quaint, simple, very clean, and comfortable, with modern furniture and a modern bed. It’s clearly from the 60s and hasn’t been remodeled, so it’s a good fit for bargain hunters.

The room was dated, and the chain lock was easy to defeat. You could slip your hand through the door and get in quickly. There was hair in the bed and a small stain, plus stains on the shower curtain and lamp. A bit of wrapper was still in the shower drain, and the bathroom tile had a dusty film.

I got a single room and don’t really get why people are complaining after seeing the mixed reviews. It’s a very reasonable place to sleep while you spend the weekend at the beach. We’re not paying $400 a night.

The owners are really pleasant and take time to chat, asking where you’re from and what brought you to the area. The rates are great, and the rooms have a microwave and fridge. This is my go-to spot when I’m around here. Very nice and clean.
