Quality Inn Hanceville U.S. Hwy 31

We were in room 103, and around midnight I started itching badly. I saw painful red spots on me, then noticed a bed bug crawling toward my 3-year-old. I recorded it right away and took the bug to the front desk. They offered to move us, but we were more than an hour from home and my daughter had a pageant in the morning, so I had little choice but to accept. I asked for a refund, but since I booked through booking.com, they said I had to wait for them to handle it. No one called a manager about the refund. They only gave us trash bags for our belongings. When I checked the bed later, the sheets and quilt had blood or rust-colored stains. The morning desk attendant was kinder than the night shift, but I also spotted a roach on the wall. I think the hotel should send the refund directly to speed things up instead of making me contact bookings. We won't return, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The location was the one good thing. We checked in late because the front desk said the rooms still needed cleaning, and then we had to go straight to Dollar General to buy supplies. The toilet had pee, poo, and pubic hair on it, with poop on the bathroom door. The desk, dresser, and luggage stand looked like they hadn't been dusted in ages, and there was even a toothbrush in the desk. The bed covers were heavily stained, so my kid slept in another room with her friend and the friend's mom. In the morning I saw a German cockroach on the wall between the beds. We left in a hurry and skipped the free breakfast, even though they said there was plenty to eat. If one cockroach is out in the open, I figure there are thousands more hiding, and I didn't want any extra seasoning in my food.

The room was okay, but the shower floor was a problem. It had a long crack, over 8 inches in all, that someone had tried to repair. As soon as I stepped in, it opened back up, and water was definitely getting underneath the pan. The shower floor felt squishy all over.

Sharon was gracious and gave such good customer service that I rated the stay five stars. We were probably the last people at breakfast, so there was no bacon left. Usually hotels in this same tier just have sausage in two shapes, but Quality Inn has bacon. Sharon asked if we wanted some, and of course we did. Thanks! The hallway could use vacuuming and the entrance needs sweeping, but the place feels homey. I was also surprised to find a refrigerator and microwave in the room, since they weren't mentioned. They came in handy for us. Keep up the good service.
