I had one of my worst hotel stays at America’s Best Value Inn in Hanford, California. The rooms were in awful shape, with damaged walls, coolers that didn't work, and what I saw as bedbugs on the beds. The whole property felt badly maintained. My trouble with the front desk started when I tried to book a one-bed room. One employee said they couldn't rent to me because the rooms were messed up. Just minutes earlier, another employee had given a different reason, saying the name on my card didn't match my ID. I transferred funds and came back, and a different employee, someone I'd already had a couple of mishaps with, said there were no rooms because they needed maintenance. Then I saw another guest get a room for three days without any problem. I've stayed here with welfare assistance, and the welfare office has always covered my stays. That day, the office was closed, so I was trying to pay myself. I think the same employee who said the rooms needed maintenance doesn't like me very much. On another occasion, I contacted my caseworker to get more days. She called on a Friday and said she'd sent the hotel a letter and check to cover my stay. I went to the office and explained that the next 10 days were covered, but they said no email had come through on their computer. I kept explaining that there was no email and that a letter and check were being sent, but they still refused to give me a room. I had to sleep outside for the weekend. On Monday, I went to the welfare office, and they finally sent an email. I asked for a refund for the weekend days covered by welfare when I hadn't stayed at the hotel. The older woman at the front desk, who works there with her children, was extremely rude and dismissive through all this. She interrupted me, wouldn't listen, and treated me disrespectfully when I asked for a refund. The customer service and communication with welfare assistance were terrible, and the rooms felt unsafe and unsanitary. I strongly recommend avoiding the hotel until they fix the rooms, improve service, and treat guests with more respect.

For $85 a night, they could have done a little better on maintenance. The shower head only worked on the pulse stream setting, and the shower knob fell on my girlfriend's foot. The TV was blurry, the blanket had a hole torn in it, and there was no pool, breakfast, or phone. These seem like easy things to fix, but who knows.

It was fine for $80 a night, about what I'd expect, and all I needed was a place to sleep. The A/C worked and the sheets were clean. The door had no weather stripping, and although a pool and breakfast were advertised, neither was available.

We stayed in a two-bed, non-smoking room at America’s Best in Hanford. It was spacious and super clean, with a TV, coffee maker, mini fridge, and plenty of lighting. The hair dryer didn't work, though, and there was no breakfast, which was disappointing. The area felt a little sketchy in the dark, but the room was a pleasant surprise and comfortable. We'd come back if we're in the area.
