Studio 6 Extended Stay Memphis Airport TN

I was exhausted and traveling with children, so this was especially frustrating. The nice woman at the front desk moved us when I found that housekeeping hadn’t cleaned the first room, but the second room only had sheets on the bed and no blankets. I canceled the reservation and ended up at a cleaner, nicer hotel in Southaven that was still close to the highway. I should’ve taken pictures. The place is cheap and near the expressway, so maybe it suits someone with no expectations, but it didn’t work for us.

The place felt peaceful and safe, and the convenient location and welcoming atmosphere made me feel at home. Everything I needed was easy to find, the bed was cozy, and my room was clean and well maintained. The staff were respectful, friendly, and ready to answer questions. You can tell they care about guests and keeping the property in good shape. I had a really pleasant stay at Extended Stay America and would happily come back or recommend it.

The attendant was friendly and eventually filled the coffee, but breakfast was awkward. When I went down at 8 a.m., there wasn’t any coffee, and I was told they close it at 9:30, which didn’t explain why it was unavailable already. The food was kept behind the desk, so you had to ask for a muffin or granola bar. The manager also said she’d credit me for the room mix-up when she returned Monday, but I never heard from her. I had booked a room with two twin beds for two people, as the website and confirmation both stated. At check-in they said that room type didn’t exist at this location, and they couldn’t find my reservation even though I showed the confirmation number. They claimed my card had been denied, but I got no notice from them and my card is in good standing, with no other issues. The room they gave me for the same price had one twin bed and a sofa sleeper, was in poor shape, and had a broken deadbolt that looked like it had been kicked in. The mattress was stained, and there were no sheets for the sofa bed. The staff were otherwise welcoming, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

After I finally got into the room, I found it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke, and the odor clung to my luggage for days. There were only sheets on the bed, no comforter or extra blankets, the TV had sound but a black screen, and the bathroom had no toilet paper or basic supplies. The shower stayed cold the whole time. I let it run and even flushed the toilet for more than 30 minutes trying to get hot water, but it never came. I became ill for several days afterward because of that cold shower. Check-in had already been a mess. I booked the night before and arrived on time, but staff said the card on file didn’t have enough funds. I don’t blame the front desk employees for a bank or card issue, but they insisted I show a bank statement with the room purchase. I provided that and my confirmation email, made several calls, and still didn’t get into the room until about three hours after check-in. Between the delay, missing basics, poor cleanliness, and broken hot water and TV, the stay was unacceptable. I don’t recommend this property.
