We've had all kinds of hotel stays on this cross-country trip, and this one was great. The indoor pool was a nice find, since those are harder to come by in the south. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good, and every employee we met was remarkably friendly and helpful. Kudos to the staff, manager, and owner.
The staff was excellent, and the room was comfortable. My daughter left her tablet in the suite, and by the time I realized and called, an employee had already found it and turned it in at the front desk. They agreed to mail it to my home so we could keep traveling. I was also really grateful to see gluten-free bagels and muffins on the breakfast buffet.
We booked that day ahead for a halfway stop on the way home and requested a handicap accessible room, which was available. At check-in, Kenyatta (sp ?) offered us a different room closer to where we needed to be, though it wasn't handicapped accessible. She let us choose, and we took the closer room, which worked perfectly for us. I appreciated the option and how well she knew the hotel. That made me want to leave a review.
We stopped at the last minute in the evening while traveling. The lobby looked clean and the receptionist was friendly, but the hotel sits awkwardly behind a convenience store whose parking lot seems to be a hangout spot. The elevator made a loud thud, and a sign said a part had been ordered and repairs were underway. I later saw other reviews describing the same issue from September, two months earlier. In our room, the tile floor was loose and uneven, the grout wasn't secure, and both bed comforters were dirty, not just stained but as if they hadn't been washed. The receptionist apologized and gave us fresh folded linens. When we unfolded one comforter, though, it had many small holes and a large rip with stuffing hanging out. We took photos to show the desk before going to dinner and thinking over the location. We came back and decided to stay for the one night. We got another comforter and planned to use the indoor pool, but the spa area had black bits floating through it. They appeared to be paint flaking from inside the spa and pool. There were no towels, and rust or corrosion covered things throughout the room, including table legs, chairs, and doors. We used the stairs for the rest of the stay to avoid the broken elevator. We planned to have breakfast when it opened at 7 and then get on the road. At about 7:15, the doors were still shut and other guests were waiting. We loaded our bags into the car while we waited, then came back in at 7:35 and asked the desk when it would open. We were told it was supposed to open at 7:30 and was only a couple of minutes late. Another guest overheard and said she'd been told 7:15, though the night before she'd been told 7. The sign also said breakfast started at 7. We left at 7:40 rather than delay our trip any longer without knowing when it would open or whether the food would be clean and good. Several other guests left frustrated too. The place needs a lot of cleaning. The carpets looked dirty, and the renovation work seemed poorly done and was already failing. It can serve as a place to sleep, but I would keep expectations very low. I wouldn't stay at this location again, and the experience made me question how consistent Holiday Inns are.
We booked for three people, asking for a room with two queen beds and an extra accommodation for the third person. The hotel was full because of a convention, and they couldn't upgrade us to a suite. We were first given a third-floor room with only one king bed and a small sofa. After we told Tiffany at reception about the problem, she moved us to the first floor, where there were two queen beds and a small sofa bed. That sofa bed was filthy, its mattress was stained, and there were no sheets. I've stayed at this hotel several times, but this was completely unacceptable and will be my last.
